Ancient History & Ruins

Fortezza del Priamar

1.5-2 hrs

5-10 min on foot

The Genoese sea fortress above the old town, now a cultural complex housing the city's archaeology museum. A few minutes along the seafront from the terminal; closed Mondays.

Ancient History & Ruins

Cattedrale di Nostra Signora Assunta and the Cappella Sistina

1 hr

10 min on foot

The cathedral and the Sistine Chapel beside it, run as one complex. Walk-in visits are weekends only — weekdays need a group booking made days ahead, so a weekday call will not get inside.

Ancient History & Ruins

Museo della Ceramica

1-1.5 hrs

10 min on foot

Savona's ceramic tradition given a proper museum, in the lanes of the historic centre. Closed Wednesdays.

DIY vs. excursion

Getting around

Easy

Excursion

Optional

About 300 m to the old town over a flat, wheelchair-friendly bridge — a shuttle is genuinely unnecessary. The Priamar fortress is essentially at the terminal and the carruggi, cathedral and Piazza Mameli fill an easy day. Savona station is a 10-minute walk with frequent trains to Genoa in about 30 minutes, which is the one worthwhile trip out on a long call. Shops and trattorias close for the riposo, roughly 1pm-3:30pm, so plan lunch around it.

Practical notes

Recommended visit duration

Three to four hours for the old town and one museum. Genoa by train is the one trip out, and only on a long call.

Accessibility

Five to ten minutes from the terminal to the old town over a flat pedestrian bridge — no shuttle needed.

Crowds

A major home port, so an embarkation day puts a full turnaround through the terminal.

Worth booking ahead?
