The Star Ferry, Tsim Sha Tsui to Central

Allow 30 min each way including the wait

A short walk along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront from Ocean Terminal; from Kai Tak, take the shuttle to Tsim Sha Tsui first

Star Ferry runs the Tsim Sha Tsui to Central service from 06:30 to 23:30, with departures every 6 to 12 minutes depending on the time of day. Sailing times vary with weather and harbour traffic, so allow for the wait as well as the crossing.

Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade

Directly outside Ocean Terminal. From Kai Tak it is a shuttle ride away, not a walk.

This is the Hong Kong Island skyline view, and from an Ocean Terminal berth it costs nothing and needs no planning. Which berth you have changes this port day more than any other decision.

Excursion

Helpful

Check which terminal before planning anything. From Ocean Terminal you step out into Tsim Sha Tsui and the Star Ferry is a short covered walk — the day starts immediately. From Kai Tak there is no MTR within walking distance; a shuttle to a nearby mall and station comes first, and reaching Tsim Sha Tsui can take an hour each way. The same port call is a very different day depending on the berth.

Tsim Sha Tsui & the Star Ferry

Depends on your berth

Ocean Terminal vs Kai Tak

From Kai Tak there is no MTR within walking distance: a shuttle to a nearby mall and station comes first, and reaching Tsim Sha Tsui can take an hour each way.

Excursion helpful

Full-city sightseeing from Kai Tak

The same port call is a very different day depending on the berth, so a booked trip removes the transport question from a Kai Tak morning.

Practical notes

Accessibility

The Star Ferry has three piers — Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowloon side, Central and Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island — so check which one your route uses rather than assuming a single terminal.

Crowds

Fares on the Star Ferry are paid by Octopus card, exact coins or a token bought at the pier, so a contactless bank card alone may not be enough.
