Helpful

The Old Town is the reason to come and it is walkable once you are in it. Corfu's own port authority publishes nothing about how you get there from the ship, so plan around the bus network rather than an assumed walk.

More details

Two operators, and confusing them is the classic mistake. The blue Astiko KTEL city buses serve the Port on routes 15 and 2b, and run to Achilleion on route 10 and to Kanoni on route 2a — but route 10 starts from Mitropolitou Methodiou in town, so Achilleion means changing buses in the centre. The green Yperastiko KTEL long-distance buses leave from a different terminal, the Green Buses Station on Eptanisou Avenue, and run to Paleokastritsa on route A9 in about 50 minutes for €2.80, with tickets sold online or on board by card or cash.

Main risk

Bus interchanges and the unpublished distance from the ship

Paleokastritsa is 50 minutes each way on a 42-stop road route, and Achilleion requires changing buses in town, so both add a connection that can fail. The larger issue is that the port authority publishes no ship-to-town distance, walking time or shuttle information, so the final leg back cannot be time-budgeted from any official source — leave more margin than you think you need.

Practical notes

Recommended visit duration

Half a day covers the Old Town and one fortress comfortably; Paleokastritsa turns it into a full day

Accessibility

No official accessibility information is published for the port, the Old Town or either fortress. Given the Old Fortress occupies a rocky two-peak site and the Old Town is a historic street fabric, mobility-limited visitors should treat the absence of data as a warning rather than reassurance.

Crowds

The port authority reports an average of 485 cruise calls and about 640,000 cruise passengers a year into a compact UNESCO old town.
