A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, built around the Plaza Mayor. The Convento de San Francisco and its colonial catacombs sit inside the same few blocks.

Ancient History & Ruins

Museo Larco

2 hrs

Pre-Columbian art in a colonial mansion in Pueblo Libre, and the one museum most visitors are sent to. Open daily 09:00-19:00, so it fits any call that has transport arranged.

Ancient History & Ruins

Huaca Pucllana

1.5 hrs

A pre-Inca adobe pyramid standing in the middle of Miraflores, visited on a guided route. Open Wednesday to Monday 09:00-17:00 — closed Tuesdays.

Excursion

Recommended

The berth is inside a working commercial port, not a promenade, and Lima's sights are a drive away rather than a walk. The real constraint is transport rather than distance: the UK FCDO warns that street crime is a significant problem in Lima and that criminals posing as taxi drivers are a known risk, advising licensed app-based services or taxis booked through a hotel rather than hailed ones. The US places Peru at Level 2. An organised tour or a pre-arranged driver is the usual answer here, and the cruise season runs roughly October to April.

Practical notes

Recommended visit duration

A full day. Lima's centre, Miraflores and a museum are each a drive apart, and nothing here is close to the ship.

Accessibility

Nothing is walkable from the berth and the port is an operational container terminal, so plan on arranged transport from the moment you step off.

Weather

Lima's coastal winter brings grey overcast and drizzle rather than rain, which flattens the light without actually stopping a day ashore.

Worth booking ahead?
