Walkable from the terminal; a canal boat covers more ground if time is short.
Ancient History & Ruins
Rijksmuseum
2-3 hrs
Large enough to need a plan rather than a wander.
Ancient History & Ruins
Anne Frank House
1-1.5 hrs
Timed online tickets only, and they are released in advance and sell out.
DIY vs. excursion

Excursion
Optional
The terminal is close to Centraal Station and the historic centre, and the city is compact, flat and well signed. Trams and the metro cover anything beyond walking range, and the canal ring itself is best seen on foot regardless.
More details
The two attractions people most regret missing here, the Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum, both operate timed online entry that regularly sells out in advance — that is a booking problem rather than a transport problem, and it is the single thing most worth sorting before you sail. Note that some itineraries list Amsterdam but actually berth at IJmuiden, roughly 25 km from the city, which changes the day completely.
Return risk
Low
With the terminal beside the centre, the return leg is short and repeatable, so timing risk is low for anyone who has not travelled outside the city.

Accessibility
The centre is flat, but canal-house museums are often narrow with steep internal staircases and limited step-free access.
Weather
Rain and wind are common outside high summer, and much of what makes the city worthwhile is outdoors.
Crowds
The central canal area and the major museums are busy year-round, independent of cruise traffic.
