10 min on foot

The house where Napoleon was born in 1769, now a national museum a few streets from the quay. Closed Mondays, and it shuts over the middle of the day outside high summer.

Ancient History & Ruins

Palais Fesch — Musée des Beaux-Arts

1.5-2 hrs

10 min on foot

A major collection of Italian painting in Cardinal Fesch's palace, minutes from Maison Bonaparte. Open daily, which makes it the reliable choice on a Monday call.

Ancient History & Ruins

Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption

30 min

10 min on foot

The cathedral where Napoleon was baptised, on the same old-town streets as his birthplace. Closed over the middle of the day and during services.

Getting around

Excursion

Optional

Among the shortest port-to-town walks in the western Mediterranean. Quai L'Herminier sits on the edge of the centre, so the old town is 300-500 m away, Place Foch about five minutes and Maison Bonaparte — where Napoleon was born in 1769 — around ten. Smaller ships dock alongside and larger ones anchor and tender, but to the same central pier, so the walk is the same either way and no shuttle is involved. The morning market by the waterfront, the cathedral where Napoleon was baptised and the Musee Fesch are all in the same few streets. Plage Saint-Francois is a 10-15 minute walk; the Sanguinaires islands and the Corsican interior need a boat or a half-day tour.
